College-Entrance Mathematics and English Tutoring
Now in my third year of one-to-one college-entrance mathematics and English tutoring, I rebuild explanations from each learner's actual point of confusion.
What I did
I begin by locating the concept or grammatical relationship where understanding stops instead of simply assigning more problems. In mathematics, I explain why an equation follows from the conditions rather than asking learners to memorize a procedure. In English, I rebuild grammar around the larger structure of a sentence.
One learner improved their school-wide rank from 80th to 8th. Beyond the number, my goal is for learners to explain a solution in their own words and carry the reason for a mistake into the next problem.
Long-term one-to-one teaching showed me that knowing something is different from explaining it in a form another person can use. The same lesson now shapes my code reviews and technical mentoring: I look for the exact boundary where understanding stopped before offering an answer.
